Kole Calhoun is so bad that he's not in the lineup against a righty that throws 90% fastballs. 

But damn, Chris Young? There has to be better RF options, but available in a trade, FA or down on the farm. Eh?

Kinsler has been hitting, Barria is pitching, Ohtani is in the lineup...replace Valbuena with JMF and Young with Hermosillo, and its almost enough to make you forget about the fact that we just dropped 3/4 against the freaking kittens.

Still gotta do something about that relief though...

Yep! I'm actually not sure what Blash or Hermosillo can't do that Young does. Must be just about the money at this point.

For the next two weeks, have Upton DL'd and DFA Young (bad offense and bad defense), call up Hermosillo to start in RF and EY Jr. to start in LF, and have Calhoun play RF late in games while moving Hermosillo to LF late in games?  

Calhoun has had plenty of hitting chances.   Young has had plenty of chances too.   At least Calhoun plays GG caliber defense for late in games.   What does Young bring?

Agreed, but the first thing that can be done for the relief is for the starters to pitch more than 5 innings.  Let's be honest, this BP is overused.

By 2019, the starters will hopefully be able to pitch 6 innings, all with a full season under their belt.  That one extra inning per game can make a huge difference.  

But yeah, upgrades in the pen are still needed (closer, a lead setup guy, and a Petit clone).

Haven't they though? I don't have a way of quickly looking it up, and I don't wanna spend the time doing it right now, but I feel like with a few (very notable) exceptions, our starters have been doing better and going deeper.

Edit - okay, its hard to look it up for how they have done recently. BUT...we are sitting on an average of 5.4 innings per start, just under the league average of 5.5 innings per start. The range is 5.1 (Marlins, Reds) to 6.0 (Nats). I don't have data to back this up, but I feel like early on in the year no one could get out of the 4th inning, so I feel like that number HAS to be on the rise - meaning recently, our starters have probably average higher than that, not lower.

I am PUMPED to see Barria pitch.  The kid has been impressive. 

Bartolo is old enough to be his dad.  Heck, Bartolo is old enough to be the dad of all of us.  Wait... Is he our daddy?  Boy, I hope not.

Lately, the starters partially have pitched more innings.   But the pen was used too much in April, and still is somewhat overused in May and now is down to essentially FOUR true MLB arms.   BadPebble and Johnson are barely hanging on, and Morris should be in AAA.

If you check the game logs it looks like the pitchers are on pitch limits, not innings limits. Trop was allowed to go a little longer last start even though it was fewer innings so maybe now in the middle third of the season they all get a little longer leash
