The Mariners are 33-20. Is Dipoto smart again?

I’m as pissed as anyone about the Vlad Jr.,  Baldoquin debacle.  But you don’t know that.  We don’t know what he could do without meddling Arte and Sosha. We will see.

you're right.  but it's more likely he sells out everything from the farm to improve the current team and it's well past the deadline before they realize it's too late.  He's already decimated an already poor farm system.  Actually, the farm system was average but he's moved several guys who could be top 100.  It's what he does.  He's about to go full bore and complete the process.  The M's will be adding before they have the chance to subtract.  We just have to hope it doesn't work.

Well they’re winning and we’re not

they’re good and we’re not

You haven't looked at the schedules, have you?

26 of their 53 games have been vs AL Central (18-8).  We've played 11

They have played 3 games vs AL East - 0 vs Boston, NYY and TB.

We've played 10 - all vs the 3 teams mentioned.

So give them credit where credit is due. They’re winning games they’re supposed to.

It’s about time Seattle encountered a tough schedule.

The one they’ve had so far is a total joke!!!!

When do the Halos start playing their cinch schedule???

Now

tigers, rangers , royals , twins ,

0-1 so far.

There are a lot of factors contributing to this, as have been stated here, but it really doesnt matter if we dont start putting things together.
When we hit the pitching sucks, when we pitch the hitters suck, we are all over the map and not doing all the things good at the same times.
We lack consistency, period.  Until we find it, what the Mariners do makes little difference .

I'm here to whack the bee hive.

The loss of Cano seems to have inspired them.

Their offense is reasonably balanced.  Getting Segura and Haniger for Walker and Marte was an absolute fleecing.  He got Healy who is basically CJ Cron, for almost nothing.

Gordon is set back in a few days and will take his natural position where he's earned a gold glove (albeit PED related).

Their SP seems to suck but they're 11th in WAR (5th in the AL).  He's got 40ip of 2.7era from Wade LeBlanc.  Outside of Paxton, they look like a hot mess on paper but they're getting the job done.

Top 5 bullpen got better with the addition of Colome.  (BTW - F YOU Jerry for suddenly finding a way to fashion a solid pen).

There farm pretty much blows, but here's the wild card in that.  Everything will go.  And why not?  He's gonna move every last possible asset in the farm for as much talent as he can muster to the major league club.

Do they have enough to get Machado?  Segura to 2b and Gordon back to CF?

Dylan Bundy?  Danny duffy?  Cole Hamels?  Granderson?  Solarte?  Pillar?  Happ?  Aaron Sanchez?  Sal Perez?  Soler?  Castellanos?

I think he likes having a terrible farm system so no one is untouchable.  Whereas every phone call Eppler has about a trade entails a discussion about Adell, Marsh, Canning, and Jones.

It's almost half tempting to try and get Kyle Lewis and Evan White for Richards.

Anyway, right now they're looking solid.  They're outplaying their talent.  We're doing the opposite.

I've popped them for feasting on weak competition but, they deserve praise for having done just that....   The Angels have fallen on their faces repeated (like yesterday).   Teams that make the postseason tend to beat up on bad teams and make the most of every opportunity given to them -- the M's have done just that and deserve the props.

They sort of remind me of the 2016 Rangers (record in 1 run games and extras), because as you point out their massively outplaying their talent.    But they have a truly elite closer, a legit ace and their offense can play.   Jerry's going to make a move for a SP because it's what he does.   It will be interesting to see how they do the second half given they have the third hardest schedule in MLB in the second half.   Again, you gotta give them props for taken care of business now.

I’ll take a look at the Dipotos win-loss numbers come September. If they’re lucky, they’ll still be around .500 by then.

Unfortunately, its probably the same for the Halos.

Weak schedule, good luck...sure that's fine. At the end of the day, the wins add up and they are beating the teams in front of them. We are not. They don't have anyone close to the talents of Trout or Ohtani for that matter. They have no farm system to speak of for bringing in replacement players and I wouldn't say their starters are any better than ours. Other than a competent bp, what would be the reason for their record to be higher than the Angels? It all comes down to getting the most out of the players you run out on the field every day.

Their record is better because they are performing better and they have played a very weak schedule.  Remember when we were beating the Royals and the Rangers?  Yea, that has been their schedule for the most part this year.
