Saw this earlier today. Everyone who works for the Angels various media departments blaming everything on injuries. A lot of teams have injuries right now. It's like when they blame the Angels' lack of offense on the marine layer but never explain how the marine layer seems to magically disappear when the opposing teams are at bat.

I hate using injuries as an excuse, but it certainly is a reason. The Angels are missing their number 1 starter when the staff is weak with him and awful without him. They are missing the two best free agent bullpen arms they signed in the off season, with health it could be at least a league average pen, without health, well we have seen what that looks like. They are also missing their best defensive center fielders, who was also hitting the ball well when he got hurt. The team also didn't have their starting 3rd baseman and short stop for about half of the season so far. I would say that the injuries could certainly be part of the reason they have performed so poorly.

Agree. The Angels had atrocious depth both on the Major League bench, and in the 30th-in-MLB minor league system. A few injuries (not no worse than some other teams are dealing with) are enough to expose this huge weakness.

Acknowledging that as a reason is perfectly fine. Turning around and acting like the team could not have anticipated there being injuries and blaming the injuries as the reason for poor results the way the hacks on AM 830 are doing is completely disingenuous however.

Look at NYY. The lost their third baseman AND their backup third baseman. They end up thinking outside the box and even have Vernon Wells (!) of all people practicing taking grounders at 3rd so he can cover that spot in a late inning substitution.
