Imagine the Yankees get under the luxury tax this year like they did.  Now Judge, Tejada and Didi go off.  They now pay big big dollars in penalties.  Oh and there’s no guarantee they beat the Red Sox.

But those players will have earned their keep and the fans will appreciate their efforts. The fan excitement and postseason experience is good for the fans.

Using the $5 million per WAR from the other thread, the Astros would have had a $265 million payroll.   Nothing like winning the World Series and losing a ton of money.  That doesn’t include the luxury tax implications.

$5M per war is outrageous. So if you end up putting up a negative war you should pay the money back.

And that is the reason this would never happen.  All of the owners would have to sign their players to $1M contracts with incentives for it to work.  The Union would scream bloody-murder.

But lets say this did happen, now you have owners separating themselves by how much they pay for performance.  Team A will give you $10K per strikeout,

Team B will pay $50K per strikeout,

Team C $75K and a luxury box.

You will still have fans complaining about over paying and under performing.  Having to pay out $180M would not necessarily guarantee a winning or playoff bound record.

Everything should be standardized to keep things on a level playing field.

As for $5 million per WAR being outrageous, in free agency the price is closer to $8 million.  So, yea.

Since defense is a part of your incentive-based system, a player can let any non-routine grounder go by so they don't chance making an error.

Also, if he's asked to move a runner over by hitting the ball to the right side of the infield, he'll "fail" and try for a hit. Why add the out to your stats?

Silly boy

Wait, every player's incentives are the same? This I have to hear.

What are the parameters of these incentives?

******Update******

After further review a true incentive based system just wouldn’t work for us after it was discovered that it would make about six of our players very wealthy and force the rest of the team to move into a homeless shelter.

Yep our team that is 8 games over .500 in early May and a half a game out of first sure sucks.

So no actual details?
