Ichiro's timing

Does it seem odd to anyone else the timing of Ichiro leaving the 40 man roster? 

Him facing Ohtani would have been a monster media fest. Why not wait one more series?

M's are trying to win games -- they will be facing a division rival and seemingly wanted to have their best 25 available... They made a baseball decision IMO, I'd rather give them props for putting winning ahead of a drawing well on a Sunday.   It's silly IMO to venture guesses into it being anything more than that.

Could be he wanted to make sure the Japanese media was in town and wasn't sure if his retirement was enough of a draw?

My first thought is his retirement announcement and subsequent media coverage would possibly overshadow Ohtani's trip to Seattle. Media would talk about Ichiro more than Ohtani. This was all Jerry's plan to take the spotlight off of Ohtani and his inability to land him. 

Now, excuse me while I take off my tinfoil hat.
