To be honest I would agree with you that platooning Ohtani is stupid and it's even dumber to play Valbueno over Ohtani against a left hander.

That said my contention is that there are other reasons why Ohtani is sitting that isn't necessarily a platoon

My bad, with an assist to the stats at CBS Sports. They list his pitching and batting separately.  But they conflate his pitching appearances with the batting ones on his hitter page.

Smart move by Sosh which I'm sure was in collaboration with Ohtani. Texas is awful and the lineup is rolling right now.
