Harper would probably be the better investment - he's much younger, plays every day, and less likely to suffer some precipitous decline in performance.  

Of course, realistically, we can't afford him - Pujols remains on the payroll ... 

But imagine if the Dodgers fall apart and well ut of the race, and are willing to trade Kershaw as a rental, fully expecting to re-sign him as a FA.

What would you give up for a half-season of him (assuming we're in the playoff hunt?)

 

You know, what's interesting is I decided to play around with an excel version of our luxury tax level next offseason, and it's conceivable we can retain Richards + Maldonado AND sign Harper while staying around the luxury tax (but probably going over by ~5-6million).

I know people insist Moreno would never go over the luxury tax level, and I understand that belief because I think Moreno has said it before, but he has a gold mine in Ohtani, and maybe if the right situation presents itself, he could conceivably take a shot at a star like him.  How likely do I think it occurs?  Maybe 5% at best, but it's still fun to entertain the concept and ascertain how conceivably something like that could be from a luxury tax perspective.
