Hey now, that's progress for him then! He struggled in AA this past season

Hah! I'm not trying to disparage his work today but let's keep the performance of spring training game 2 in perspective.

So far the only starting position player the Angels have put on the field is Maldonado that threw a ball into center field on a stolen base attempt.

That's not representative of what he will be doing four weeks from now. The roster isn't representative of what the Angels will field on opening day. Neither is their competition so far.

But it's fun to watch after the coldest hot stove season on record. Damn climate change!

Really like Ramirez and hope he gets a spot in the pen. I probably will never understand keeping Wood around. At least he will take some of the heat off of Alvarez....

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to make of Ramirez last year, but if he keeps this up, he'll make the pen and someone will get bumped.

Other thoughts after two games...
I'm going to give Herm some slack - he's looked bad defensively, but so has just about every OFer so far. I don't think he's seen as the 'first guy up' from AAA anymore...it'll be EYJr., Blash, or Liriano. Speaking of, Liriano has looked very solid so far, and Jones is definitely making an impression. EYJr...I think he's got all the skills in the world to be a good ballplayer, but, and this goes back to last year, overthinks or gets over-emotional and either tries to do more than he should or can't keep a rhythm. In two games he already looks to be doing the same. I still think Marte has a better chance at making the club than most think. Cowart may be great defensively, but if Walsh keeps hitting, Cowart is going to be in AAA to start the year. That doesn't mean Walsh will get the last bench spot, but it starts to pull Kaleb back I think.

Jewell looked great!

I agree that Marte still has a good chance.  I think while Cozart hasn't gotten any reps at 2B yet, he could get some towards the end of ST.  The goal right now is to obviously get him prepped for his role as a starting 3B.  Cozart would probably only play a handful of games at most at 2B to sub in when Kinsler needs a day off.  If Kinsler gets hurt, then I'm sure we'd pivot and call up Cowart or someone else to take over 2B, while Cozart stays at 3B.

Was it Bourjos?  Thought it was someone else injury and Trout played LF

2011

The Los Angeles Angels promoted Trout on July 8, 2011, to replace the injured Peter Bourjos in center field. He made his major league debut that night, going 0-for-3.[33] In his next game, Trout recorded his first career major league hit, an infield single against Seattle Mariners pitcher Michael Pineda in the bottom of the third inning.

Thanks for the correction

That may be the end of Marte as the third bench player talk. Since he has no more options he better have one hell of a spring.

It is still early in ST, and Cozart has been there for only a week.  I'm sure the game plan is to get him as many reps at 3B as possible, as it'll be his primary position for the year.  I do think we could see him getting some reps at 2B at the end of ST.  Cozart probably doesnt need a ton of reps at 2B, as he'd just be used to fill in for Kinsler every now and then if he needs a day off.  If Kinsler happens to get hurt, then that's when you see someone like Cowart promoted to take over 2B instead.
