Trout in May

Recommended Posts

`

He was probably under a bunch of pressure for the first month of the season. The Angels as a team weren't playing well, Hamilton/Pujols weren't contributing, and Trout just came off a monster season with high expectations, so he may have been trying to do too much, even though he wasn't playing that poorly.

Yeah, he did play poorly. April was his worst month of his career, he had an OPS under .770.

Too bad Albert has gone from putting up Vernon Wells' numbers in April to Mathis' numbers in May (Angels' versions). On the other hand, Hamilton has gone from hitting like Mathis to hitting like Wells (Angels' versions)!!!

I meant in absolute terms, not relative to his career which is a pretty small sample size in which he did perform poorly in comparison.

After looking at it, if you consider July/September of 2011 then he did worse in those months. He only played about half of each month, but his OPS was under .500 for each month and probably wouldn't have risen above .770 unless he went on fire.

.344/400/732 overall 1.132 OPS with 4 HRs and 9 RBIs

Count in the last day of April and it gets even better. It's safe to say he's out of his little funk, and the league has still barely figured him out.

Maybe Trout just isn't an April guy. He kinda s***ed his first few games in April last season. Perfect fit for a Scioscia-managed ballclub  B)
