Merry Christmas

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer

So he paused. And the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow.
But the sound wasn’t sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn’t be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at Whoville! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN’T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: “How could it be so?”
“It came with out ribbons! It came without tags!”
“It came without packages, boxes or bags!”
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.”
“Maybe Christmas . . . perhaps . . . means a little bit more!”

Yes it does.

For me, the most important part of the Grinch’s transformation comes right before the singing. It’s what makes it possible for the Grinch’s heart to open, for him to finally hear the message of the holiday.

It’s that he paused.

While we should all do it more often, at least once a year, we need to pause and give thanks for one another. With the hustle and bustle of modern life, and the ability to stay informed nearly instantaneously through social media (as if so many things were that important), it’s often easy to forget to take the mime and take that time for ourselves and to just pause.

Throughout the year, we can fight and argue over lineups, rotations, defensive alignments, bullpen uses, trades, and signings. But at this time of year, we pause.

And give thanks.

And reflect.

And appreciate that as much as we argue on AngelsWin, there are others on the site there to argue back with us. And draw us in. And debate those lineups. Critique those sick rotations. Respond with stats about defensive alignments. Use Fangraphs and other data sources on how to best use the bullpen. Tell us why our ideal trades will never happen. And most of all, explain why so-and-so won’t sign with us.

Without all of that, we wouldn’t have community. We wouldn’t have a reason to come here.

And our lives would be empty.

We’d miss the laughter. We’d miss the joy. We’d miss the camaraderie. We’d miss each other.

So today, take a moment. Pause. Remember your family. Remember your friends. And most of all, remember one another.

Take the time. Make the time. Find that one person who debates the most with you and wish him/her a Merry Christmas. And mean it. And appreciate all the good that is AngelsWin. It’s there. It always has been. And it always will be.

Merry Christmas AngelsWin.

And this is why Angelswin is the best site on the net. Where else can you go to read a thread on the Christmas spirit written by a Jewish guy and walk away with advice on tequila while staring at dolphin porn) bot animated and live action)? I tell you, we have it all here!

Jerry: I'm here to destroy your farm system and remove any future you have.

Scott: I'm here to manage your major league team down the toilet.

Both: Together we'll make sure you'll never win.

Jerry: Losing isn't enough though. Major league owners have done all they can to make sure losers can become winners through revenue sharing and high draft picks. So I've created a full proof plan on spending hundreds of millions on players past their prime, and draft low upside collegiate pitchers with every pick.

Scott: By making sure every penny has been spent and no one is on their way to help, you'd think we'd be fired in short order, but Jerry has that covered too.

Jerry: You see, by making many meaningless trades, it keeps us in the news, and because we're in the news, we'll grant every interview ever. During interviews, all we have to do are drop some key words like "analytics" and "cost efficiency", then smile.

Scott: The key here is to make folks believe you want to win and will win. It makes them forget everything you've done to create a loser, and keeps us employed.

Jerry: Another key to our plan is called "blame shifting." For example, I once signed Albert Pujols to a 10 year 240 million contract at age 32. Instead of being up front about it being my decision (I created a presentation and sold my owner on it), I've convinced the media it was the owner's decision. The next offseason I signed Josh Hamilton and he sucked immediately, and I still managed to blame the owner (if there's water in the well, keep going to it). Despite the fact that I expressed the need for LH power, the media has peddled this being someone else's decision. Then, when I offered crap scouting reports to my coach and he didn't follow them, I made sure the media knew it was because he was closed minded and not open to my key word "analytics."

Scott: We couldn't risk another coach ruining our plan for losing, so I volunteered to coach Jerry's next team and so far so good.

Jerry: It's also important to stay away from the international market. I signed a terrible ball player for 15 million simply because he's Cuban. Then, once I came to this Japanese owned organization with a strong history signing Japanese players, I managed to acquire all the money other teams would trade me, and offer it to the greatest Japanese player in recent history, only to have him turn us down for my former organization, one that has never signed a high profile player out of Japan.

Scott: That's right. It's important to us that our players are overpaid and American.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!

This was the moment that Madde and I heard that we signed Shohie Ohtani......

Proof that dogs shock easier than humans.  She instantly grew antlers and hasn't recovered since, and she won't eat dog food anymore, only sushi.
