Julio Teheran? Gerrit Cole? Chris Archer? or Jake Odorizzi

The off-season is finally picking up, we probably made the biggest acquisition with Ohtani and now we are heading to the December meeting. With that said, could/should we add another arm to the rotation? I believe that all five of the listened names will be available and i think we have a good chance to acquire one of these guys.

So the three most possible choices are Julio Teheran, Chris Archer and Odorizzi. We could trade for one of these guys if we take on either Ramos or Markakis salaries. With Odorizzi beginning the easiest and Archer the toughest.

What kinda of package would it include to take these guys?

Canning, Castillo and Lund for Teheran and Markakis?

Canning, Hermosillo and ward for Archer and Ramos?

Those two will cost so much we probably can't pay the price (or would want too). BTW isn't Ramos gone to the Mets? Or are we talking about a different Ramos?

Archer will require a MLB level pitcher (probably someone less expensive like Heaney) and at least two of our top prospects (Jones/Adell). We perhaps have enough to get Archer but the question becomes is it the right set of players and prospects for us to give up, how does it impact our future, and do the Rays actually want what we have to give?

The Rays do need to cut salary so they will be moving Colome for sure probably. Perhaps Odorizzi or Archer. Maybe someone like Ramos or Miller too.

An Archer trade probably starts with one of either Skaggs or Heaney (probably the latter he has one more year of control over Skaggs), C.J. Cron, one of Jahmai Jones/Jordon Adell/Brandon Marsh, one of Chris Rodriguez/Jaime Barria, plus a couple more mid-tier prospects (like Ward and/or Thaiss for instance). It will cost this much because Archer, over the next four years of his control, is SUPER cheap. It would be like adding another Ohtani to the payroll almost no serious impact, particularly in the first two years.

That would be game changing to our payroll though as I said in the Primer Series. Ohtani has already re-shaped this franchise's future from a payroll perspective (I mean seriously changed it). Adding another superstar under long-term control at a bargain basement price would turn us into a blockbuster team. However we should be happy with where we are at but it sure is nice to dream about an Ohtani, Archer, and Richards 1-2-3 at the top of the rotation isn't it? :D

In the end if the Angels can acquire a multi-innings reliever on top of the Ohtani signing we should be well set for 2018 so an extra arm isn't necessary unless we trade away one of our current arms in trade for another area of need.

Any deal for a frontline or good young starter is going to require one of Jones or Adell, I assure you.

Odorizzi would be the easiest to target. St. Louis or Arizona may have enough surplus pitching that you could pull something off there.

I agree with both of your guys points but I feel as if the trade offers you guys are listing are just straight for one of these young starters. My proposal involves us taking a bad contract as Well, such as markasis or Wilson Ramos which lowers the trade value . We know that the rays want to lower the payroll and we've seen the braves doing the same.so we may not have to include Jones or Adell.

If we’re talking about trading serious farm pieces I prefer them to be for a legit position player.

Im not so concerned about trading prospects away with Eppler. Look how fast Eppler has put together a decent farm, I have trust in him not only to trade for the right piece if he were to trade the farm but to also replenish the farm after.

Well we have no need for Markakis so I am not sure how that helps us?

Certainly Ramos would have some appeal to the Angels who need a backup catcher and a guy who can eat up some at-bats supporting Pujols and Ohtani splitting 1B/DH duty but the Rays may not want to sell low on him despite the fact that they need to cut salary.

Overall I think the Angels line up well with the Rays in trade opportunities so there might be a fit. In the end it has to make sense for both sides and if Archer is involved that means two or more of our best prospects will be involved too. You can't get away with that otherwise as the Rays are a team that constantly need to refresh their Minor League system.
