If the command is there, DeLaRosa is tough to hit with the different pitches and mid 90s heat with some movement.

I wonder if control is what kept him back in the past.

Checking his minors stats after being drafted from Riverside CC in 2003, he bounced around rookie and Indy ball until finally getting to high-A at age 27 in 2010 but promoted to AA after just 3 appearances. He then kicked butt in AA with a sub 2.00 ERA. Finally, he had 2 solid seasons for AAA Durham in 2011 and 2012.

One thing that jumped out at me was his GB/FB ratio from 2010-2012, which was somewhere in the mid to high 1.00s. Also, he averaged around 3 to 3.25 BBs per 9 innings from 2010-2012. Lately, he has been throwing a lot of strikes.

The advanced age and great GB/FB ratio with touching mid 90s does harken back to one guy in particular: Donkey.

In any case, this pen is being slowly converted into one where most of the relievers can bring it up to mid 90s, including Williams who touched 94 in 2012.

we are going to have a stretch this season of some very good baseball and these two guys could play a huge roll in that.  pitching in the 6th and 7th to keep us in games and hopefully at some point, the offense will take over.  Unlikely to make up for what they've already done, but it would be nice if they could at least make think interesting.

Might be time to trade Downs by then?
