So the AAV drops down to $21.2m. We will see how it breaks down year to year. I'm guessing it'll be backloaded significantly so they can open up more '18 payroll.

Also with the terms of that contract is seems very clear that Upton wanted to stay in Anaheim, I would have thought he could have gotten more money on the open market. Not a lot but more.

Yes this will be quite interesting to see, particularly in 2018 and 2019 where the Angels have the most actual payroll issues in terms of ceiling.
