You didn't know how far your tax dollars can go

Recommended Posts

"If we allow a family to keep another thousand dollars of their income, what does that mean? They can renovate their kitchen, they can buy a new car, they can take their family on vacation, they can increase their lifestyle," he said. "That's what our tax plan has to do."

- Trump economic advisor Gary Cohn

What alternate universe does this man live in, in which you can renovate a kitchen, buy a new car or increase your lifestyle for $1,000? These are the kind of people who advise the President of the United States.

Money trickles up.  If you give tax cuts to the middle and lower class, that money goes right back into the economy.  People that have less are less likely to save it.  If you give rich people tax cuts, there is no guarantee they will "hire more people".  Demand is what creates jobs, and there is greater demand when those that have less are given a little extra spending power.

This is why Republican trickle down policies keep failing.

I don't really disagree with you, but it's important to realize that money that is being 'saved' is being invested in some way or another. Your bank is not storing your money in a vault it is loaning it out to someone somewhere for something. In that sense money given to the lower class will go directly into the economy, while money given to the upper class will go to economic investment.

Where I agree with you is that money given to the the lower class goes directly into the local economy, where investment can go anywhere.

It reminds me of Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock: "As we speak, our fellow countryman are rolling out our Kabletown Couches on the assembly line, earning an honest day's pay so they can go to the store and buy milk for their family, which costs ... oh, I don't know, $90 a gallon."
