Sac Fly Question?

Does a Sac fly lower your slugging percentage? I know it lowers OBP.

No.  Slg % is just total bases divided by at bats.  Sac flies don't count as at bats--just as plate appearances.

I always wondered why sac flys don't count as at bats.  I get sac bunts, guys are literally giving themselves up.  But on Sac Flys they are trying to get hits, just happen to hit to outfield with a runner on third.  Why does a grounder that scores a run not count as a sac grounder and not affect batting average?

I guess the answer is in the name. Sacrifice fly assumes you sacrificed the at bat to get the run home. Hitting a grounder that scores a run isn't likely to be intentional

I'm guessing 98% of the SFs are hit by guys trying to hit the ball out of the park.

Or they're just trying to make contact so they get a free RBI
