OC Register: Angels’ Mike Trout donates to Hurricane Harvey relief, reaches out on social media

Recommended Posts

Angels outfielder and two-time American League most valuable player Mike Trout took to Twitter Tuesday to help raise emergency relief funding for those impacted by devastating flooding brought on by Hurricane Harvey.

Trout has long acknowledged his interest in weather phenomenons and storm tracking. He made an appearance on the Weather Channel to talk about a blizzard that hit his New Jersey home in the winter of 2016. He referenced that interest in a Tweet Wednesday in which he announced his $27,000 donation and implored fellow MLB players to “step up to the plate and help” Harvey victims.

Other athletes have responded with similar efforts on social media. Houston Texans star J.J. Watt has used his powerful reach to  launch a fund-raising campaign on YouCaring.com. Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul, a former Clipper, reportedly donated $50,000 to the campaign. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander has pledged a $10 million donation to the relief effort, according to published reports.
