Yes.  Simply on the liability issue.  Look at football and the mess they are in with concussions.  Even though everyone knows that it's part of the game/inevitable in the game.

Sure it's part of the game.  But we've seen hockey and football really address needless collisions.  Especially in Hockey.  And it hasn't taken away from the game at all.

If the catcher chooses to block the plate, then the runner has no other choice but to collide with him. But if the catcher sets up for a sweep tag, then a collision should be banned.

Can't ban it because catchers block the base path. If a catcher doesn't want to get hit then don't block the path to the plate. I do think a player should be ejected or fined if he purposely is trying to hurt the catcher with a malicious hit.

I can buy these arguments. If a catcher is blocking the plate to the point that the base runner can't get around in a reasonable amount of time then he should be able to run him over. But if he's in a position where the runner can get to the plate by simply sliding feet first, then it should be a 5 game suspension without pay IMO if he runs him over.

You could really say that about blocking any base though.  IMO, just ban blocking any base.  This should also then come with banning collisions.

Also, takeout slides should be modified also.  Just like the basepads, you shouldn't be allowed to get out of a foot of either side of the bag.  None of this 5 foot roll outs.

This is what they tell little league to stand in front and not to cover the line or plate. Sometimes it's a bang-bang thing like a throw up the line or a catcher turning to tag a guy coming in at full speed.
