Ty's father was killed by two shotgun blasts at close range. His mother was later tried for manslaughter and found innocent. She insisted that she simply thought it was a burglar and nothing more. The young Cobb remained distant from his mother after that and refused to attend her funeral in 1936. Psychologists can wonder if this tragedy contributed to his manic intensity on the field. He had worshipped his father and considered him the greatest man alive.

Jackie and Gil Hodges of course the two on the right

They turned a triple play 7-4-3.

It's not often that a triple play starts with an OF catching a fly ball.   The Halos pulled off one in 1972 in Minnesota.   All I remember was Killebrew making the 3rd out at 3B to complete it.

Side note on trivia answer:  Even though I was wr…, I was wr..I was not right (sorry Fonz), it was right around that time that Allen Roth (hired by Branch Rickey) began the sabermetric push, in preferring OBP over BA.

Numbers on the uniform?

The first times numbers were used on the uniforms to identify players.

June 26, 1916. Cleveland Indians. They were used on home uniforms only.
