Eye Opener: Search for missing sailors after USS Fitzgerald collision

The Latest: US Navy says search continues for 7 sailors

I know we were talking about this somewhere.  Just couldn't find it.

But, on ABC7 news today was saying that the freighter that hit the destroyer passed the destroyer first, then did a u turn and rammed the ship according to gps data.

USS Fitzgerald crash: Race to find seven missing navy crew

Quote

Marine traffic records suggest the ACX Crystal made a sudden U-turn roughly 25 minutes before the collision with the USS Fitzgerald. It is not clear why it changed course.

"However, the USS Fitzgerald is one of the most advanced warships in the world - with highly sophisticated radars systems."

sounds like they may have missed this big container ship somehow. did they have time to issue warnings to the freighter? no indication they fired a warning shot or took any evasive measures.

Navy sailor sacrificed himself to save 20 lives after the USS Fitzgerald collision

This is a true hero.  Not the crap they are passing off as a hero in the media lately.

RIP. Sounds like he was a great guy.

After reading the article I have a question for any Navy folks who might have the answer.

The article says he was a "Fire Controlman First Class." Does that mean he was an E-6?

The article also says he was 37 years old, a bit old for an E-6 right? If he joined the Navy right out of high school he should have made E-6 while still in his 20's.

Finally the article says, he hoped to make captain someday. How would that be possible as a 37 year old E-6?

I read a story about a woman who was breastfeeding at a public pool and she refused to put her tit away when the lifeguard asked.  The story called her a hero.

Pics or it didn't happen.
