Cowart for 2B?

Recommended Posts

Halos been doing a good job of holding fort under the circumstances

His K/BB is almost 2/1, a concern, on pace for about 100 down there, ouch!  Yet, he's hit above .300 for the whole season. With a .386 on base and a .419 slg for .805 Ops.  HR might surge, 3 this past week for 4 on the year.  2B has been dismal all season, take a shot at him?

Since Trout got hurt, Danny's hitting .318/.318/.545/.864, and in his last 20 games, he's hitting an acceptable (with his defense and career norms) .218/.317/.400/.717

He's showing signs that he's crawling out of his slump, and he's proven before that he can have prolonged hot streaks. They're gonna give him some more time to see if he can keep it up or at least build up some deadline trade value before we see Cowart.

Now, if he goes into another 0-25 streak quickly, they may change their mind, but I think he's safe for now.

How close is David Fletcher to moving on up to AAA?

Doesn't look like anytime soon. Putting up pretty pedestrian numbers at AA.
It'll take a big hot streak or clearing of some org depth above him at 2B/UT IF to clear the path.

Fletcher doesn't hit for much power.   But his OBP isn't bad (near .350) and he makes contact, plus he seems to run the bases well (9 SBs in 36 games).

Eckstein's AAA stats at Pawtucket in 2000 weren't anything to write home about either.   But he became the Halos' leadoff guy for 4 seasons.

Yeah Fletch is good, just don't think he's going to be pushing anyone out until next year at earliest, barring a major breakdown of those above him (be it trade, injury, or slump)

  • 4 weeks later...

He's played 2B exclusively at SL since 6/28, sooner or later it seems he's the one to be called upon there.  Espinoza's bat isn't the answer.  Hopefully, his era has arrived.  Get Trout back and Cron rebounded and this could be a pretty damn good lineup for the 2h.  Get Skaggs, Richards, and Shoe back to soldify the staff, and it's quite a team.  Obviously, as always, health is the main factor.
