OK, and what kind of team makes more money, a winning team or a losing team?

The Angels situation could be described as being penny wise, dollar foolish. Or winning the battle and losing the war.

Getting big name free agents who don't fill a position of need but have name recognition could get more butts in the seat (make money in the short term) but to the point that hinders the team from winning, long term attendance, TV ratings etc. will be poorer.

You're missing the point I guess. My comment was about Arte caring. If he only cares about money, he's still going to care about fielding a competitive playoff caliber team.

I agree. To that extent he has failed in the long run.

I agree with the overall message here, but Marc Russo was hired, and began to get it going again.  Dipoto wanted his guy in there.  Gomez, from what I understand, knows what he's doing.

Marc Russo was hired in November of 2010.   Clay Daniels was fired in June of 09.   So two entire drafts and signing periods passed between the two moves.

That's impossible to defend.
