I like your optimism but the Democrats can do whatever they want with no resistance.

They're bought as easily as anyone else. I'm sure the various health provider unions and insurance companies and will figure out how to make them happy.

The Assembly shelved the plan this week. It's basically dead.

They figured out there's no mechanism to pay for it. The scary thing is, they might present it to the voters as a ballot measure. The same voters who approved the (now $68 billion) train.

And they will pass it, because the Dems told them to vote for it.  Only afterwards will they complain at California's 150% tax rate, and blame Trump.

BTW.  California's budget for 2017-2018 is $183.4 billion.  So to fund an additional $400 billion, we'd have to raise taxes what, around 200%?

A good chunk of that $400 billion will be for funding illegal immigrants. They want to cover everyone in the state, legal and otherwise. So the illegals who work for cash under the table will not have to pay a penny towards their health care, but will get a beautiful policy regardless.

I love the "no co-pays, no deductibles" aspect of the plan. Everything is FREE!

Fantasyland.

I heard in the next version of the bill they are actually going to pay people to visit the doctor.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect most Mexicans here illegally still have taxes deducted.

Not what I heard on www.fwdfwdfwd-realnews.com. And illegals do not pay sales tax in the store or taxes on gas.

At what point do we tell fat people to eat a salad and go for a walk? Everyone needs medical attention in their life because we aren't immortal but unless we all get on the same page with regards to lifestyle I don't see how universal healthcare can be equitable in the US.

Broken ankle from going for a morning jog. Covered.

Diabetes after a dozen warnings from doc to shape up. Not covered?

It's a catch 22.  You can't force people to live a healthier lifestyle but collectively we get stuck paying for people's poor choices.  Kind of like how you can't tell people not to procreate yet taxpayers end up footing the bill for kids people have that they can't afford.  The moment you try to tell people to live healthier or stop having kids you'll be a social pariah in today's overly PC culture and for a politician it would be a death sentence.

I used to be a supporter of universal healthcare but we have too many cultures in the US, even in just California, for it to make sense. You need a homogenous society that has the same goals. In that society, you can make socialist programs work.

At what point do parents get their hands slapped for fat kids? If you don't feed them or don't send them to school there are repercussions.
