Bob Woodward - "sequester is the fault of GOP Congress"

Recommended Posts

Look up how many military bases are here and you might get a hint as to why I'm in Japan. I help my country out by working for a smaller paycheck than 75% of Americans. And I'm still willing to pay more in taxes. Everyone has to do their part, otherwise we're reduced to nothing.

Yeah!  Suck it TobiasFunke!!!

Thank you for your service Kody Mac.

that's easy to say when your food and shelter is being paid for.

Bottom line is you don't know how much anyone has given to this country so it's really hard to tell anyone they haven't given enough.  Also, as has been noted by others.  You shouldn't feed an animal that will only keep eating and never learn to control itself.  This government has absolutely lost any voice, right or however you want to put it to ask for more from people.  They have spent, squandered and mismanaged every dollor given them for the last 60 years.

You're right, I get money for food, and money for shelter. How much money per month do I get for food? $352 bucks. While that is plenty of food for just my wife and I, keep in mind that food stamp recipients get more money for food than I do. In fact, I could double my money for food, since I qualify for food stamps (by only making 2100 a month).

Maybe it's the fact that I don't want to live in Greece. Look at all the problems they're having. I'd like to avoid those at all costs, and if it means even more money out of my pocket, then so be it. I will still exercise my right to vote and try and get rid of these greedy fat bastards in our government. I will also run for office when I'm done with the military (hence working on my political science degree).

I appreciate your service immensely.  I think serving military is underpaid and under appreciated.  I just can't reconcile the mismanagement of the very people demanding more of my money.  I'm also very wary of any opinion that tries to make patriotism part of that particular point of view.

We had our pay cut by 5% four years ago, as well as a salary freeze. Just found out Thursday that were getting a small rase retroactive to January 1. It's very, very welcome. It'll help offset the increase in taxes from my buddy Obama that he dropped me at the same time.

I don't mind paying my fair share, but we passed that hurdle a while ago. To ask me and other middle class Americans to pay more -again- is wrong until the waste and corruption in Washington is fixed.

"The PolitiFact rulings on these and other similar statements depended on their phrasing, but none was rated entirely True.

Knowing how Congress comes up with its federal budget helps to explain why.

Since the passage of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, the Senate and the House are supposed to pass budget resolutions in the spring. These budget resolutions set a framework for spending, taxation and other fiscal items in the coming fiscal year. They also lay out general plans for the next four years. If these budget resolutions differ, the chambers are supposed to hammer out a compromise."

..."For fiscal year 2003, the Senate, under Democratic control in 2002, failed to pass a budget resolution of any kind. For fiscal 1999, 2005 and 2007, the House and Senate failed to reconcile their different bills and pass a compromise measure. In these latter three cases, the Republicans were in the majority in both chambers of Congress.

See, it's always bad when the other guys do it.

They didn't cut anything. they just chose not to fund things that still exist. so the end result is that average Joe workers get told they have to take a 1 day a week furlough that results in a 20% pay cut. The disastrous results of the sequester turn out to be no big deal to the people who created it. This is what you can expect when the people who make the decision affecting your life do so with no real impact on their lives.

My brother-in-law is one of the people potentially facing a 20 percent cut. He and my sister are already living on the edge, with her working a lot of overtime just to keep them afloat. I'm not sure how they will cope if this happens.
