An open letter to conservatives from a liberal

Recommended Posts

That letter is 80% speaking to one percent of conservatism.  The other 20% is basically memes from Facebook.

If someone wants to debate an issue, then make a thread and we can debate it.

The safe space jokes are hilarious.  When we start talking about deleting this thread, then we can come close to what we see on some college campuses.

I really hope that letter is not eloquent speech from the left.

It's been obvious over the years that you tend to take the jokes you don't like too literally. Jokes often involve hyperbole.

"One percent" is very optimistic. There's no way we can gauge an exact number but I do agree that those views are representative of a minority.

I recognized the joke, it just wasn't funny.

WTF? It's an opinion piece (from the most liberal city in Montana) discussing the Montana Senate Bill to outlaw Sharia.  It's not the article, it's the bill that was the subject of my point.

There are stupid bills put forth by nutcases in every state every year and Op Eds by hacks. It doesn't mean the Nation is following that path.

For the record, you've lost the argument when you resort to "shut the fuck up," whatever the argument is about.

Thanks, but the argument was how righteous the left seems to think they are by making up an army of strawman arguments and lies and thinking they stand on some high ground. It may be high ground but it is Mt Bandini the left has planted their flag on.

So yeah, for a while the left can just shut the fuck up for a while, we've grown tired of their bullshit.

For most people they don't have a purpose but that's really not the point. It's not Uncle Sam's business. I know many people that shoot competitively with them and don't think there is a problem with it.

Fair enough. I do believe it is overreaching for the California government to suddenly require you to "turn in" your high-capacity magazines, especially since it's impossible to track and nutcases won't turn theirs in anyway. But I'll still never understand the gun culture that gets defensive whenever someone raises questions about owning weapons that were created to kill things on a mass scale.

As of 2014 more than two dozen U.S. states have considered measures intended to restrict judges from consulting sharia law. Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, South Dakota, Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama and Texas[5][6] have "banned sharia" i.e. passed foreign law bans.[1] In 2010 and 2011 more than two dozen states "considered measures to restrict judges from consulting Shariah, or foreign and religious laws more generally".[7] As of 2013 all but 16 states have considered such a law.[1]

In November 2010, voters in Oklahoma voted overwhelmingly to approve a ballot measure to amend the state constitution to ban sharia from state courts.[8][9] The law was then updated to include all foreign or religious laws.[10] The law was challenged by an official of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. In November 2010 a federal judge ruled the law to be unconstitutional and blocked the state from putting it into effect.[11][not in citation given][12] The court found the ban had the potential to do harm to Muslims. The invalidation of a Will and testament using sharia instructions was an example.[13] That ruling and injunction were upheld by the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals on January 10, 2012.[14]

Missouri also passed a measure banning foreign law in 2013, but Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed the bill "because of its potential impact on international adoptions."[1]

The last two states to "ban sharia" were North Carolina, which prohibited state judges from considering Islamic law in family cases in 2013,[15] and Alabama, where voters passed an Amendment to the State Constitution (72% to 28%) to "ban sharia" in 2014.[16]

And yet some people still believe that government isn't just jerking each other off on the tax payers dime...

Obviously, no one is seriously concerned about it.  They just make laws about it for fun because their constituents DO NOT BELIEVE ITS A SERIOUS ISSUE.  I'll go back up mt. bandini now.
