Yeah I'm really interested to see his first full season. One noticeable trait that Eppler seems to be targeting is bat speed. Thaiss and Marsh are noted for it and I think in an era of increasingly high K rates, getting the bat through the zone and making contact is going to be more important than ever and Billy knows that. Thanks for posting it Chuck.

yep.  Nonie Williams apparently set prep bat speed records.

Marsh was supposed to be a first rounder.

I think the theme with Eppler is that he prides himself on finding talent that somehow slips through the cracks.  It's kind of important for Marsh to work out.  Not just because we need the talent in the system, but because we need Eppler's method to work.

I'm told Marsh is a bit of a gym rat, and will work harder on the field on his own than most other prospects. He's just a singularly focused kid that loves baseball.

I think the Angels will have him skip the Arizona Summer League and go straight to the Pioneer League.

I think Nonie and Marah are similar prospects from an offensive standpoint. The bat speed and being able to hit initially from the left handed side as well.

I don't think I'd lump Thaiss in with them. His bat speed is fine, but more than anything, his barrel spends forever in the zone and his hips are explosive and won't fly open until he has to, to turn on an inside pitch. Otherwise he keeps himself closed off and barrels line drives to RCF and LCF.

Very excited about this kid and agree with Sickels, that his upside is comparable to Jahmai Jones. With Thaiss, Jones, Marsh, and Williams, the Angels have four potential star position players in the minors. I emphasize "potential" because, most likely one or two of them won't reach that potential, but if one becomes a star, or two become above average regulars, and one or two flame out or become bench players, that's not a bad return on investment.
