Last I heard they were good to go.

Good to go meaning that they've both had procedures done and there's nothing else that can be done for them so let's roll the dice and let them play.

Skaggs is going to be a crapshoot. Last season he was temporarily shut down because of an elbow strain and then the diagnosis was changed to forearm tightness. In the recent article about his workload Scioscia said "he's healthy" and "if he's healthy"  in determining the extent of his workload. That tells me that they're not sure what they're going to get out of Skaggs. I personally think Skaggs would be a tremendous bullpen piece for a shutdown 7th or 8th inning guy. I don't think he will ever be a workhorse type starting pitcher.

Richards had the stem cell procedure and may have to change his pitching approach to avoid reinjuring himself. That may require a different arm angle or throwing a lot less high velocity pitches. Either way both of these guys are going to at risk on every pitch. They're both going to be watched very carefully.

Reyes got hurt a week before he was to report to camp. Are these guys so fragile that they tear their elbows playing catch??

On the other hand, maybe some pitchers aren't supposed to have a 100-mph fastball and five other pitches in their repertoire. Maybe coaches are asking too much from some of these young men.
