He could very well wait a couple months for numerous more teams, including the Angels, to be free from restrictions to bid on him. He's only 18. No sense getting worked up about Baldoquin on this one yet.

I hope they don't go and immediately blow their load again. If they do, they better sign every damn intl FA. They'd be better off spending to the threshold for a year or two and getting the best, or as many, as they can afford, and then go all in when it makes the most sense.

He will be subject to bonus pool restrictions if he waits tots so in terms of payday he should sign before then. Unless we have some type of inside track on the kid we're out of it I think.

Yes, he will be subject to bonus pool restrictions, but...

"By waiting until this July 2 to sign, Hernandez could open his market up to teams like the Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Angels, Rays, Yankees and Red Sox, as those six clubs would no longer be held to the $300K limit."

He could wait a couple months and have more teams bidding on him to drive up price.

Still don't think the Angels have any hope though. And like I said above, that may be a good thing. They shouldn't go and blow over the threshold again right off the bat, not until we can make the most of that penalty and do it when we have legit money to spend there and enough scouting/relationships in place to haul in multiple high-caliber players.

Tots if he waits until July 2nd it will actually LIMIT his possible payday. I seriously doubt he will wait for more competition for his services that will be restricted by how much they can pay him. If money is the object he won't wait until July 2nd. The bonus pool restrictions will limit any team from paying him more than he can get prior to July 2nd.

On the bright side, the Baldoquin disaster (Latin American signings purgatory) ends in a little over 4 months from now.

Can he at least up his OPS to .600 at high-A ball in 2017????

Dipoto's going away gift to the org.

It had always been my hope that the Angels scouting department (including Jerry) saw something in Baldoquin that no one else saw. Unfortunately that turned out to be true as the Angels saw something 29 other teams didn't see.
