Angels sign Bud Norris

[Second Base]

Minor league deal. Really projects well in the bullpen, but was once a very steady #4 starter or a few years. 

He figures to join a AAA rotation that looks like it'll be Norris, Smith, Wright, Banuelos, Lamb, Scribner and O'Grady.  This assumes that Vicente Campos moves to relief, Meyer is in the majors, and they'll likely use O'Grady and Banuelos or Lamb in relief to save their arms.

This is a nice move. No risk. Throw an experienced guy to compete for the 5th spot in the rotation or last spot in bullpen.

1-9, 5.27 ERA as a reliever.

I think I like Bud Norris better than I do half our projected rotation.

For those who never worked it out, Norris was the best of the bunch from the 'pick your poison' thread.

Didn't realize this, but Norris tops out around 97mph and avgs close to 94mph.  Maybe he could fit into the pen if he get acclimated.

If Bud still has something in the gas tank, it could work out nicely. If it doesn't, it's (by MLB standards) no big deal -- just under $2M. Lots of arms to look at in the spring.

Norris was also hinted at way back during the Winter Meetings, which makes me think they've had interest in him all winter, so hopefully they've seen something they like. This may be more than a 'well, let's just sign any SP for depth' move.

Exactly. There's a lot of things that can go right when you throw 96+ (assuming we turn him into a RP).
