how long is 'temporary' supposed to last?

So that's the rub. Obviously it's not supposed to be permanent. Let's say someone has been here going on 20 years though, has kids born here that are citizens, and have lived an honest life. What benefit does it have to anyone to deport that person? If they have committed a serious felony though fuck them. Send them back.

the lack of a workable and reasonable immigration plan is one of the absolute great failures of our congress. year after year after year they've screwed around so much and accomplished almost nothing. what an embarrassment.

Is it the failure of Congress or is it the failure of the voters to elect anyone who actually wants to create a workable and reasonable immigration policy?

I can agree with this

it's going to land on congress for not coming up with the legislation to address it since they're the ones in the position to do so.

there's also a good argument to be made for us as voters for not electing people who are willing to jump in and get the work done once they're in washington. we tend to vote for candidates who are at the extreme ends of the scale, not ones who want to work and figure out a compromise (though nearly all of them say they'll do that).

Neither party is interested in working on immigration. Otherwise it would have happened when Democrats had control of both branches from 2008 to 2010, or Republicans would have done it when they had control of both branches from 2016 to 2018.

It's almost like our elected officials are in it to better themselves or something

Biden has been a disaster on the border and hasn’t maintained the Wall but it has had some issues recently due to monsoons in Arizona. I haven’t seen this anywhere else and I have no idea how reputable the guardian is.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/aug/23/trump-border-wall-reportedly-severe-disrepair-arizona

“…when Trump was still in power, experts warned that floodgates in some places along the 701-mile, $21bn wall would need to be left open during heavy rains and flooding, to avoid collapse amid surges of tons of water carrying rocks, sediment, tree limbs and other debris.

Because of their remote locations, many of the gates would have to be manually opened and left unattended for months at a time, the Washington Post reported – potentially allowing for the easy entry into the US of smugglers and migrants.

It appears the gates were open during last week’s storms, but the wall was still no match for “historic flooding” after months of drought. According to climate experts at the University of Arizona, the Douglas area has this year received almost twice its average annual amount of monsoon rainfall.”

Interesting to say the least. I couldn’t help seeing Troll Daddy started the thread. He was always good at making me laugh.
