Who is our starting LF?

Second Base

Maybin had the better year last year, but his career numbers are worse than Revere and he's right-handed.

Revere was unlucky and awful last season, but before that he was a very useful lead off hitter. He's left handed.

They're both solid defenders and can play all three OF spots. They're both fast and are base stealing threats. They're both under contract for one more season.

Is it Revere vs RHP, Maybin vs. LHP? Is it 50/50?

What say ye AW?

As I will detail shortly in an upcoming Primer edition Maybin will have the first clear shot at everyday LF and will likely hit lead-off in front of Escobar. Revere will strictly be a 4th OF/pinch-hitter/pinch-runner until such a time possibly comes that Cameron plays himself out of the regular lineup.

Maybin was a terrible CFer the last two years.  Eppler is betting that he becomes an above average defensive LFer.  A position where he's logged all of 80 innings as a major leaguer (in 2007).  That shouldn't be the assumption we are making it.  But he's gonna be given the chance to prove Eppler right.  If it does come to fruition and he also produces similar to what he did averaged over the last two years, he'll be an average major league hitter with above average defense which is good for about 2-3 wins.  ie, similar in value to a Brett Gardner.

Just like Revere had horrible luck last year, Maybin was supremely lucky in that his batted ball profile didn't change much over his career norms yet he had a BABIP of .383.  So he's actually more likely to be what he was the previous year without even factoring in 2016.  With above avg LF defense, he'd be a 1-2 WAR player.
