Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

The 22-year-old Gurriel is ranked No. 6 on MLB.com's Top 30 International Prospects list. Lourdes is a free agent, and he is expected to sign with a Major League team when he turns 23 on Oct. 19 to avoid being subject to the international signing guidelines.

Four of those would be great news.   But why Chachi?

Would Nova and Jay mean losing the 2nd and 3rd round picks?   Or are they not of a level that requires draft pick compensation?

Chacin would be fine in the pen and as a spot starter, sort of in the role that Rasmus has filled. He's pitched well out of the pen, and I think after bouncing around so much, he'd be interested in sticking around in Anaheim for another year, plus there's a lot of Venezuelan presence here. Read an interesting interview with his wife regarding the efforts required into moving constantly, especially having to adapt after being in Colorado so long. Just have a feeling he would be useful depth and with the thin FA pitching market, he'd be fairly cheap and easy to retain in comparison.

Nova was traded midseason - can't be offered a QO, and therefore no compensation. He's a former Yankee, so Eppler will be acutely familiar with him, he's an extreme groundball pitcher, which is good for Simmons and Cowart and Marte if he's in left. He has had TJ surgery fairly recently, so hopefully there's a little less risk there, and the Pirates turned him around since acquiring him - much like they have with Happ, Liriano, Volquez, etc.

Very unlikely Jon Jay gets a QO, so again, no draft pick loss. He's probably around 2/18-3/36. Reasonable. Fits Eppler mold of lots of contact, not a lot of strikeouts, can lead off when/if Escobar is dealt.
