Meyer was very good last night....

Sorry if already posted but Meyer threw 4 innings at SLC, with 2 hits, 6 K's.....I'd certainly give him a couple of starts...no reason to worry about arm fatigue, etc.  If he pans out, my apologies to Eppler...I wasn't impressed with the trade...hell, if Meyer pans out and Nolasco is just league average for a year or two, it could be a steal....

If he is only pitching four innings at a time he is not a starter and I would be concerned about arm fatigue.

With the Sept 1st call ups, you can start him, let him pitch 4/5 innings, if that is as far as you feel he needs to go, and then you have a bullpen full of guys to pitch the rest of the way, other guys you'd like to get a look at also....seems like a no brainer to me.....

Yeah they have more or less said they intend to get Meyer (and Smith) innings this September. Meyer will be on a pitch limit and I imagine Smith will be as well having pitched a career high already. Having extra pen arms will allow them to cut them off after 3-5 innings (50-75 pitches) and still let them get the MLB experience they need.

For that reason I think guys like Lincecum and Chacin remain in a long relief role, and it wouldn't surprise me if someone like Kyle Kendrick gets added and brought up as well.

I don't think Kendrick is on the 40 man so you'd have to make that work....I assume Chacin will be ready tonite to pitch in long relief (again) for Oberholtzer....worked well last time...Lincecum would make some sense to be ready with Meyer and/or Smith....He needs to be in the pen (as does Chacin) so it maybe would be a try out of sorts for him for 2017 bullpen work.... all sorts of potential bullpen options for Scioscia.....
