His health has declined and if Texas insured his contract it's a big win for the Rangers.

He was insured on the original deal he signed with Detroit -- not sure if the Rangers were able to get him insurance again once he got hurt.  They typically only go 3 years on those deals.

Does anyone prefer him over Pujols still?

I don't prefer either one of them, at least not for the money they signed for....and Hamilton would be worse but he was cheaper, by 100 million....

Yes. Better production and you no longer have to deal with the last 4 years of overpaying a declining player

Better production?   What exactly are you basing that on?  Raw OPS?  Because well... TBIA and Comerica are not Angel Stadium.

I don't think you realize how much time Fielder has missed, or that he has actually been paid more money since they both signed..  AP has doubled Prince's bWAR (14.1 to 7.0),he's hit almost 50 more HRs and driven in well over 100 more RBI...  Fielder's been paid 119 Mil to date, AP -- 100 mil.

So, other than potentially retiring and leaving all that money on the table it's really hard to argue he's been more productive or provided more value.

I concede on the better production part. Mainly, I'd just be stoked if this was the last season the team had Pujols. Ranger fans probably are sympathetic towards Fielder's career ending early but are also probably happy to get out from that commitment and whatever savings they end up getting out of it
