Yup. In a sellers market the Angels sitting in their hands not trying to capitalize on this insane market for relief

I really don't think they are sitting on their hands Kevin for two reasons:

1) The market has developed slowly because the options to acquire in trade have been less-than-premium choices. If you were a GM and had to choose between three players that won't move the needle for your team that much and you have to pay through the nose for you'd be hesitant too.

2) Smith is more of a "finishing piece" that a team would like to acquire but most teams had other more pressing needs than right-handed set up men. Now that some of these bigger trades are finally happening teams are turning their attention to those complimentary pieces. Smith will be gone before 1pm PST IMHO.

I'm still wondering what Lucroy finds so darn attractive about Milwaukee. Heck, they don't even have an INO anywhere remotely close by. Who'd move to a place like that???

Regarding the trade he vetoed to Cleveland he wanted the Indians to void the 2017 club option so he could become a FA which they of course didn't want to do.  The option is for 5.25M next year whereas he would get a big long term deal if he were a FA.

Meh, he has as many World Series rings as I do.. I'd think he'd want to change that before his clock runs out. He's good enough to get his payday but chances to win are closing.

He turned 30 last month and has the equivalent of 5 seasons worth of games played in the majors.  He's an UFA in 2018 so if he can dictate becoming a FA in 2017 or staying where he likes through 2017 why not.  I realize the goal is to win and I understand what you're saying but he's in the prime of his career age wise and barring injury could have quite a few more productive years and maybe make the shift to 1B or DH some day.

If Smith is the only one moved today it will be a bit of a let down.  However it is one of those times where it is easy to be critical, but we have no idea what the offers were for the other guys.

I will be excited going in to the off season if only Smith is traded.

I would love to see some young multi dimensional talent on this team.  Scioscia is at his best with guys that can run the bases and play solid to great defense.  We have a bunch of guys that are station to station and have a singular skill set.  Probably why I love Calhoun as much as I do, he can play defense, he can hit and run, has some pop, has become patient at the plate.

Smith is a no-brainer.....but without knowing what was offered for Escobar or anybody else, it's hard to be critical....

Brewers getting jiggy with it.

Beltran to Rangers for Tate.

The Rays have reached a deal on a trade involving Brandon Guyer, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times (via Twitter). FanRag’s Jon Heyman reports that Guyer will head to Cleveland, with Class-A outfielder Nathan Lukes going to Tampa Bay. Topkin tweets that right-hander Jhonleider Salinas is also in the deal.
