I'd say screw Scotland. They voted to be part of the UK so let them be part of the U.K.  If anything is destabilizing its threatening to bail every time you don't get your way.

I talked with friends in the UK about the Scottish independence vote while the campaigning was still going on. Apparently the people who were pushing independence for Scotland hadn't thought things through, even the basic task of developing a national currency. They were asking permission to continue to use the British Pound even if they left, and England told them to stuff it.

British millenials are the most outraged at the Brexit result, but they didn't vote.

This is probably why Trump has a shot at winning.  All he needs is his militants to show up.  The worst thing for hillary could be if she has a big lead and her supporters take it for granted and phone it in.

EU law - which has equal force with national law - confers rights and obligations on the authorities in each member country, as well as individuals and businesses. The authorities in each member country are responsible for implementing EU legislation in national law and enforcing it correctly, and they must guarantee citizens’ rights under these laws.

This was a referendum. Direct yes or no vote with majority rule. A US presidential election in these times comes down to a few swing states. Regardless of whether he scores a virtual shutout in the red states he has to rely on the minorities and women of those swing states to get hm elected. I don't think he can keep his foot out of his mouth long enough to do that.

In terms of the immigration problems, im in the dark. Is england bailing because as an EU member they have to accept a certain number of refugees (or immigrants) or something?

Immigration is part of the problem.  But not in the illegal immigrants.

This is the example that I think is what is happening in Britain.  Say the U.S. and Mexico had an open border policy.  How many US jobs would be taken by Mexicans because the minimum wage is $15 and hour, and the minimum wage in mexico is a bit over $1 a day?  Corporations would be dropping most labor prices to minimum levels, and hiring out to the sudden influx of work that is willing to work at cutthroat rates.

This is why the politicians and the corporations IMO were so against leaving the EU.  According to my dad, Japanese corporations that had European headquarters in Britain are already working on exit strategies to move their operations to countries in the EU.  And in a way, this is why older Britains voted to leave.  Because older workers means more expensive, and they were being replaced by cheaper.

Global labor market is a real thing. The US is only really affected by the illegals coming from Mexico, at least for the time being. Europe is in the process of importing cheap labor from the African migrants and expensive, useless headaches from the middle eastern migrants.

Brexit referendum: EU ministers press UK for quick exit

Quote

He made the comments after an urgent meeting of the six EU founder members to discuss the decision.

.................................

The six countries attending the summit in Berlin - Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands - first joined forces in the 1950s and still form the core of the EU.

Looks like the biggest mooch is calling the shots.

Just heard back from one of my friends in the UK whose opinion I asked for. His response:

=======================================================================

Overall it has some very good points. We can make our own laws without the E.U saying yes or no. We can deport criminals faster. We do not have to keep giving money to children who do not even live in our country but one of their parents does. Europe already throwing their weight about and bullying but that is to be expected. Major problem is Scotland and Northern Ireland now causing issues. In the long run I think we have some difficult times ahead but hopefully we will be better off in 4 years plus.

This is a perfect example of the socialist system where 10 countries work their asses off so 18 can sit on theirs and suck up money.

If the Blue stares pull out the Yellow states collapse and it causes an economic depression for all of Europe . If the Blue states stay in eventually the Yellow states will cause them to collapse causing an economic depression in all of Europe but just a decade or so later.

So the UK might as well get it started so in a decade or so they can return to normal where their economy is stable and Greece is still Greece but nobody gives a fuck if the goat herders starve to death.

So here is a hypothetical situation I was talking to my dad about.

Britain is about to leave the EU.  And everyone is panicking.  Once country leaving a block of 20 something and everyone is panicking.  It's to a point that there are chattering that a few other nations might leave.

And here is Scotland.  Acting all big and saying they will leave Britain and join the EU.  Think this through long and hard.  One Country, Britain, left the EU, and everyone is panicking and thinking the EU might collapse.  And here is Scotland thinking, sure, let's leave Britain, and join the EU and all will be well.

And in a few years, when the EU collapses.  Guess what Scotland.  You will be the biggest bitch of England ever.

I've heard the Scottish leaders say that since they voted against leaving that they are now being removed from the EU against their will. Well 2 years ago they chose to remain part of a union in which they make up about 8% of the electorate. They knew the potential of this. Just hope your leaders manage to negotiate a decent departure and watch the rest of the dominoes fall from a safe distance.
