Actually doesn't work that way - you can't bury players in the minors to escape their cap hit. Sending stoner down removes max of $950k in cap hit.

For despres they'll just LTIR him if need be - it removes the entire contract from the cap.  They don't want his contract on the books for 10 at a reduced rate. Better to just LTIR him and save $3.7m.

But the hope is you don't have to, because he's a fantastic young defender. When healthy.

Thompson willl definitely be LTIR that's $1.6m.

Stoner and Bieksa get a lot of heat but you need guys like that to clear out the crease. Fowler and vatanen and even Lindholm aren't pushing Lucic out of Gibby's crease.

Basically, the Hampus Lindholm situation comes down to this: Anaheim wants him under Rasmus Ristolainen’s $5.4M salary.

At the beginning of last week, word around the NHL indicated the two sides were $700,000 apart per season (Lindholm at $5.8M, the Ducks at $5.1M). I think that’s closed, but the critical sticking point remains that if it’s a six-year term (as it is with the Buffalo defender), that buys up two years of unrestricted free agency for Lindholm as opposed to one for Ristolainen. Anaheim has flirted with a five-year offer, but Lindholm’s camp doesn’t seem interested.

This is really starting to bother me. I've always thought the Bargain Bob moniker is lame, but he's really living up to it with these negotiations. In what world is Hampus less valuable than Risto, Rielly, and Jones? Just, FUCK!

There is more discussion about the situation for anyone who is interested.

So after they sign Lindholm, what will they do after the season when they got Lindholm, Vatanen, Fowler while Bieksa uses up a protection spot ?
Other teams will have even more leverage knowing Anaheim has to buyout Bieksa or move Fowler or they lose Fowler to Vegas. Fowler's had hot streaks before the eventual coming back down to earth.

Seems they could sell while he's playing well right now to clear the cap space & acquire a little bit of offense in a trade.

First off, they can ask Bieksa to waive hit NMC, which would allow the Ducks to use the spot on someone else. Bieksa won't be picked up when the Ducks have other players that LV would want.

Second, I think the Ducks have to trade Fowler before the expansion draft. They won't be able to afford him after his current deal expires following next year. That allows the Ducks to protect three defensemen (Lindholm, Vats, and Manson) and seven forwards.

And WTF Islanders.  Opening day, and a lot of open seats.

their arena blows. they said last year they wanted to move, and that was less than one full season in their new building.

bieksa can't be bought out until after the season.

and he will waive his NMC for expansion draft.

it's tricky. but they won't trade someone until they have lindholm signed. they can't trade fowler and have lindholm fall through and lose both.

it will be fine. annoying. caps are tough.

i think BM is just trying to see if he needs to make space, or use LTIR to make space. but you also can't assume despres is ok, trade fowler, and then lose despres to ongoing concussion issues down the road. they will only keep despres if they are 100% sure he's healthy. tricky.
