How Venezuela’s socialist dream collapsed into a nightmare

Recommended Posts

Once again, someone who fails to make the distinction between socialism and communism. Venezuela has been a communist country for decades. The author even alludes to them modeling the leadership of Fidel Castro in Cuba, and he uses the term "Marxist" several times. Their closest ally has been Cuba. Socialism and communism are not the same thing, and Venezuela is pretty clearly following the latter path.

Socialism varies from country to country.

Venezuela practices the idiotic version that never works well for long.

You have the very moderate Lite version of Socialism in Canada that can work well but this is also because they are being competitive in business. Canada is a attractive place to film movies because of their tax credits for example & so alot of film industry related things there do very well & Hollywood likes outsourcing to Canada.

Is this a pro-socialism post?

So the part of Canada's economy that isn't socialistic is thriving. Got it.

Wouldn't tax credits for filmmakers be an example of socialism, since it's the government subsidizing business?

I have a remote employee who lives in Caracas

He tells me $20 hour full time makes him rich out there.  He has no problems with money, but its extremely hard for him to buy food.  He has problems getting flour - yes, that stuff bakers use.  I ask him to take pictures, and he says he might get in trouble taking pictures of the poor situation.  Hes expecting a civil war or something anytime soon.

I want to go there!

That sucks for him. Mexico sounds like a better option

This might be a bit too nuanced for many Angelswin members

You really have such a hard-on for me, calscuf, it is kind of cute. Would you like me to send you a portrait of myself so you can actually use me to rub one out? I'll sell you one for $20.
