You guys are awesome.  One or two of you have ever seen more than a handful of these guys play.  You can watch youtube clips but that isn't nearly enough to have a real opinion of a guy.  This is a college guy that hit .375 with power and an OBP of .470.  We all know we have to build a team that can compete sooner rather than later, so why not take a very good college bat.

Because there were better prospects available who didn't play catcher.

Plenty of mock drafts had him going in the 30s, I didn't see one which had him in the 20s. If we're drafting him as a 1B, not sure how he is deemed a better prospect than someone like Rutherford.

So, just to be clear, we hate the pick because he is a catcher?  Everyone on here is saying his bat is why they drafted him, so why is everyone pissed off?

because it seems like another reach relative to other players ranked ahead of him.  None of us are really in a position to question that, but just going by consensus from multiple publications we probably went cheap.

You can't be that picky, or else you risk artificially limiting the talent pool at your pick even more. You take BPA, regardless of when you think they'll be ready.

" If you think Thaiss will be a decent defender eventually, he's a certain first rounder and maybe sooner than people think; a team that believes in the glove could target him for an under-slot deal. If you think that he's destined for first base, he is more of a compensation round pick. Either way his bat will get him drafted on day one, especially given the relative lack of polished college bats."
