We are so dependent on trout for runs it's insane. This is a really bad lineup. Running out a guy who couldn't even cut it in AAA for the A's as a platoon LF is hilarious. It still amazes me Arte refuse to go after a good LF with the many options available. I was in denial of his refusal to go over the tax but he's been full of shit for years. I feel so used lol

Greg Amsigner was trashing the team for that on MLB Tonight last night. If you are in it why aren't you signing a left fielder, or a starting pitcher?

Might end up standing as called though since they'll determine there isn't enough to overturn.

They should be criticized for that inaction. They replace the Joyce/Murphy/Victorino awful platoon with an arguably worse Gentry/Nava/Ortega solution. Once again, the bats suck horrendously in April. Franchise is so damn frustrating and we are wasting the best offensive player we have ever had.

That's their problem for thinking this team is in it. Pretty clear this offseason that Arte couldn't stomach shelling out hundreds of millions again when he's already forking over $96 million for 4 dudes who will be probably combine for less than 3 WAR total for this year's team

 

Look at this offense and bullpen. They got about 5-6 holes on this roster with about 2-3 being pretty massive ones. Feels like this year they're pressing the reset button. They made some minor moves to keep the team competitive and likely finish around .500, and they made one move to help shore up an area for the long-term(SS)

 

It's pretty bad that they're in this position during the years they have Trout but that's where they stand. If they didn't have Trout this is probably a bottom 7-8 team/roster in MLB

Even with that, the team will likely not make the playoffs. We were really bad offensively last year and decide to add a Nava/Gentry combo, a defensive SS (like the trade but doesn't help the offense a whole lot), Escobar at third and Pennington. Escobar is a solid addition and a bit better than Freese and Aybar is trending in the wrong direction so Simmons was a nice addition . Neither of those are nearly big enough improvements to be the Viagra to the limp-dick offense of last season.
