Americans generally have to really go out of their way to have anything approaching a rudimentary understanding of terms like socialism or Marxism. We do a terrible job explaining anything about these things in schools.  Part of that is very much deliberate.  People don’t like to acknowledge it but our schools do a shit ton of ‘merica Cold War era propaganda.  A big part of that is brainless misunderstanding of those terms.  Whitewashing actual history etc and just straight up not discussing things. 
 

like think back to what you learned about the school of the Americas in school.  If you heard anything about it at all.

Funny, I just had a memory of one of my very liberal college professors advocating to invalidate (Democrat) Rod Blagojevich's Pepperdine law degree after his impeachment and his corruption was revealed.

I think in certain unique cases where a person abuses their power, and the university wants to revoke their degree, then whatever. But I don't support mass invalidating of people's degrees based simply on their political beliefs. However, something tells me that's never been a possibility and is a blatant strawman.
