Orange County Register: After a year of adjustment, Angels' Roberto Baldoquin 'a completely different player'

Recommended Posts

It doesn't bode well that he wasn't talented enough to step in at high A as a 21yo and do well regardless of all the adjustments he needed to make.

But at least there is enough to still give him the benefit of the doubt for now.  It's clear he's got some talent.  Our scouts had to have seen something and it was likely while he was in a comfortable situation so it bodes well that if he's adjusted going forward we will get his best sooner than later.

He's clearly more of a project than expected though.

I like that he came to camp ready to go and the halos saw this immediately putting him into big league camp.

Ahem..

Baseball Prospectus article:

Over the last few years, the Cubs have invested heavily in training and development programs for their young international talent. Those programs are starting to bear fruit in the form of international players who are more comfortable than ever making the transition to a foreign country—the U.S.—whilst simultaneously honing their craft at the highest level and against the best competition. The minor leagues are hard enough to get used to as it is, and the Cubs are doing everything they can to make things easier for those in their organization to acclimate, especially those coming into the system from abroad.

Would be a huge boost if he grows into an above average prospect. Could factor into 3B or 2B plans in near future, or with Simmons now aboard, turn into a trade piece we could actually afford to spare.

I was going to reply Blah, Blah, Blah NEWB~

But, then I know you've been here for a while so I said......... "Nah, it's cool"~

Sounds like Baldoquin's problem was that when he arrived he was the only guy in the organization who spoke Spanish and didn't have a college education.
