Las Vegas Raiders?

The latest locally: It appears that two banks are willing to step in with the money that the Adelson family was originally going to put up. Since this appears in a newspaper that Adelson owns and he is hacked at the Raiders for the way that they handled the whole thing, I don't know why they would print this if there wasn't something to it. Bleacher Report initially reported the new financial arrangement.

Raiders president has no comment on possible financial backing for Las Vegas stadium

Looks like it may finally be time to order the jersey.

Bank of America to bankroll Raiders stadium in Las Vegas

Bank of America will bankroll the $1.9-billion Las Vegas football stadium sought by Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis, paving the way to move his franchise to Las Vegas, he told NFL owners Monday.

Davis and Raiders team president Marc Badain informed the league’s finance committee that funding for the planned 65,000-seat facility is in place with the banking giant, which regularly does business with the NFL, a league spokesman told the Review-Journal.

Can someone explain the financing thing to me? Is B of A just taking over for Goldman Sachs or are they giving Davis the $650 million Adelson pledged as well?

Apparently they are covering the Adelson contribution as well. Raiders management says that the entire financing package is in place, and now they are just awaiting league approval to proceed.

Now, the NFL has to give 3/4 approval.

Did they purposely keep it under 70k to avoid any Super Bowls ever being hosted?

The word is that it is designed to easily increase to 70K so that can happen. A Super Bowl here would be epic.

It is fun to read the comments in the local paper, many of which say that "we don't need that element here". Some people seem to believe that the Raiders would bring the entire city of Oakland with them.

What will be interesting is the suggestion that they play at Sam Boyd Stadium in 2019. The new stadium would be ready for the 2020 season. Sam Boyd barely makes it as a college stadium. It only seats about 45,000, and it makes no sense to expand it since UNLV would move to the new stadium.

Look at it this way, their rivals are playing the next two seasons in a 30,000 seat StubHub Stadium.

Capacity wise, Sam Boyd Stadium is a Taj Mahal next to Stub Hub.   Those September Sunday games will be brutal though in the heat.

The heat is going to be the major thing if they decide to do this. That said, the Cardinals played day games at Sun Devil Stadium until their dome was ready.

And capacity wise the Oakland Coliseum is the Taj Majal compared to PNC Park. Only one of them is a decent stadium to play in.

It's the same thing that got a franchise awarded to my home town. It was mentioned after Jacksonville got the team that the city had "been a friend to the NFL." At least half a dozen teams used the threat of moving there to get new stadiums built in their current markets.

Now, just the vote.

If you had told me ten years ago that this day would come, I would have told you that you were insane. The city that was not allowed to advertise during Super Bowls, host Super Bowl parties or mention the name of the game in advertising now has their own team. There is already early talk about hosting a Super Bowl.

Welcome, Las Vegas Raiders.

NFL approves move of Raiders from Oakland to Las Vegas

Vegas Raiders.  They are going to kill there.

I'm not so sure. LV is a bottom 5 NFL market for size, per capita income, and corporate headquarters. Additionally much of the population is "newer" arrivals who already have loyalty to another team.

The Raiders are counting on up to 30% of their tickets being sold to out of town travelers, but travelers haven't shown a propensity to buy tickets to NFL games even at other "tourist" cities. Will travelers stick around until late on Sunday to go to games? Will they want to take 1 of their 2-3 days in Vegas and use it to watch a football game?

I'm sure they will do well at first when it is a novelty, but will tourists continue to guy tickets to games once the fun has worn off in 10 years?
