The filing would include a statement explaining the Raiders’ decision, then potentially words from Goodell. There would be committee meetings to analyze the move from all sides, then a vote of all the owners. Between the analysis, vetting, and discussion, it’s likely it would take about 4-6 weeks.

That would set up a vote of the owners to send the Raiders to Vegas during the late-March league meetings in Arizona — with 24 votes needing to pass. The other option would be to call a special league meeting, which doesn’t appear likely.

Based on recent decisions made in the NFL by the league’s owners, there’s no reason to suspect the vote won’t pass.

What is going to be really awkward is that the plan calls for the Raiders to remain in Oakland for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, because there is no suitable stadium here for them to play in prior to then.

maybe i missed it, but why didn't the chargers have to go through this? or did they do that already some time last year? i don't remember hearing about the owners voting their approval for them to relocate.

I hope they don't get approved. The Chargers should've been the Vegas team, not the Raiders. LA was the priority and they ended up with 2 bad teams that don't come close to the Raiders franchise. Yes, I know they sucked for 14 seasons, but that franchise is one of the richest franchises in the NFL as far as history. Plus, the Raiders have won a Super Bowl for Los Angeles and everyone knows the most popular NFL team in LA is the Raiders. I see more Raiders gear around LA/OC than Rams and Chargers combined.

I don't know. I guess you can call me salty. I just feel that the Rams and Raiders in LA were the perfect fit. Las Vegas Raiders sounds worse than Los Angeles Chargers. If the Raiders do move to Vegas, I can guarantee you that a lot of the cars in that parking lot will have California plates. My family said they'll still be a fan of the Raiders and go to games, but all their gear will be Oakland/Los Angeles.

folks are calling it the worst stadium deal of all time.Las-Vegas-Stadium-Rendering-1.jpg

I don't see what is so terrible about it. I'm sure that most of the "folks" are in Oakland, because they can't compete with the deal. It is being paid entirely through hotel taxes, which means that local taxpayers won't be paying it. It amounts to roughly $1 per day per room, so it won't have a perceptible impact on tourism. This is one of the few - perhaps the only - city in the country that could do this and make it work.

As far as those who say that this isn't going to happen and the Raiders are going to move into the Niners stadium, I'll bet that most of the talk is centered around Oakland. Nobody with the NFL has even mentioned this. This sounds like a fan's desperation plea rather than a realistic plan.

Raiders file papers to move from Oakland to Las Vegas

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak told The Associated Press on Thursday that he spoke with the Raiders. Sisolak is part of an 11-member panel that was appointed by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to study plans for a proposal backed by billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson's company, Las Vegas Sands Corp., to build a domed stadium to lure the Raiders to town.

not oakland folks.

a very famous stanford econ professor and a bunch of experts.

“This is the worst deal for a city I have ever seen,” Roger Noll, an economist at Stanford University who has studied publicly-funded stadiums for two decades, said of the plan to increase the hotel room tax by 0.88 percent.

“There’s really no competition – this will be the most heavily subsidized stadium in the history of professional sports,” said Noll. “Overall, this is a horrible deal. Somebody remarked the real winners would be Oakland,” DeMause said.

just paperwork.

not official until owners vote and pay the fee.

but not sure why they wouldn't, if vegas wants to do a terrible deal then it makes sense the team would jump on it.

but again i've heard a lot of rumors around here it's all show to get into the new niners stadium.

According to today's news, the Adelson family is out of the Raiders' stadium plan. It will be interesting to see if it still happens.

That's 650 million that the Raiders are going to have to find an alternative funding source for.

basically exactly what i was saying:

"If [Adelson] doesn't think it will pencil out for him, it won't pencil out for Goldman Sachs or anybody else that thinks they want to step up to it," Clark County commissioner Chris Giunchigliani told the San Jose Mercury News. "I hate to say it, some of my concerns are starting to bear out. I don't think Mr. Davis cared about either community, ours or Oakland. He's using us against each other."

Bear in mind, though, that the Honorable Ms. Giunchigliani was defeated in the mayor's race in the last election, and she has been down on the city ever since. She has been the "no" vote in most of the decisions to move the city forward.

IMO, unless they find a way to get the Adelsons back on board, this deal is probably dead.

What apparently killed the Adelsons' involvement was Mark Davis negotiating lease terms and even things like the size of the logos that could be used when UNLV used the stadium without consultation with the Adelsons. They were not happy with the lease terms, believed that they were unfavorable for the city.

I'm sorry, but if I have a partner who is bringing $650M to the table, I include him in any discussions of anything.

Las Vegas mayor still optimistic about stadium deal for Raiders

This Raiders relocation drama could turn out to be a blessing for the NFL

Goldman Sachs steps back from Las Vegas stadium deal with Raiders

Quote

The arrangement with Goldman Sachs was contingent on Adelson’s partnership with the Raiders in the development, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation. Without Adelson, the person said, there isn’t any deal.

The political fallout Tuesday included a suggestion by Aaron Ford, majority leader in Nevada’s Senate, that public money for the stadium could be diverted for other purposes if the situation isn’t quickly resolved.

Last week, the Raiders submitted a 117-page proposed lease to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority without Adelson’s knowledge that included the team’s paying $1 a year in rent and didn’t mention the billionaire. The move didn’t go over well. Adelson, who Forbes estimates is worth almost $30 billion, issued a strongly worded statement Monday ending the partnership. The five paragraphs included a promise that he “will no longer be involved in any facet of the stadium discussion.”

A person close to Adelson described the possibility of salvaging the relationship as “unlikely” and “beyond complicated.”

Only the Raiders could screw this up so royally.  Hopefully, this means that the money is diverted to the monorail to the airport and downtown.  Oh, and this comes to mind.

Some people in local government are privately conceding that Mark Davis has killed the deal through either incompetence or gamesmanship. Some have moved on to settling the stadium situation for UNLV and forgetting about the NFL.

It was essentially a done deal until Davis felt the need to move forward without talking to one of his principal investors.

I would be very surprised if this rises from the ashes. Nice job, Mark.

The Chargers already had approval to move to LA. They didn't have to get it a second time I think.

San Diego Raiders?

Glen?  Glen?  Glen?

Doubt it happens. Davis has less money than Spanos to build a stadium. He'd need at least as much public money as Spanos wanted but couldn't get. That's even assuming he wanted a smaller stadium. Also if the Raiders move to San Diego they wouldn't be eligible for an NFL G-4 loan since they are relocating and teams that relocate aren't eligible. In reality if Davis wanted to build an equal stadium to what the Chargers were trying to build he would probably require about half a billion more in financing than what the Chargers would. I don't see that happening.

Are they considering a new stadium for UNLV on/near campus?   Or enlarging the current one 6 miles east of the campus?

The talk is about replacing Sam Boyd Stadium, not renovating or expanding it. Part of the reason that the football program isn't doing better is the distance between campus and the stadium. UNLV doesn't have anything resembling game day atmosphere on campus, because the stadium is seven miles away and it isn't on a direct bus route. Students without cars are left to their own designs as far as getting to the game. Forget walking to the stadium from the dorms, like happens on many other campuses.

The original plan was to build a new stadium roughly in the area of the Thomas & Mack Center. The main issue is height restrictions, because this location is directly off the end of one of the main runways at McCarran Airport.

This is roughly what was proposed.
