Los Angeles Rams thread

Peters did pay dividends, for both the Ravens and Rams, returning a Wilson INT for a TD.     Let's hope he gambles a lot like that, and loses every gamble, when the Ravens come to the Coliseum a month from now.

Goff had much better numbers yesterday, than a week ago.    Of course, S.F.'s defense looks for real in allowing just 10 pts. over the past 3 games.     That Greg the Leg miss on a normally automatic kick against the Sea Chickens could really hurt, otherwise the Rams are a game in front of them with the current tiebreaker for post-season play.

On to London, and a winless Bungles team

Is it just me or does the Rams offense have no personality this season? Their running game just isn't there. Goff is getting picked off and missing receivers more often. Very few big plays and way to many stalled drives from what appears like too conservative play calling from the booth.

Today the Rams defense has out scored the offense 9-3. That's just wrong.

Two problems that stand out:

1)  OL is more inexperienced than the past couple of years.   Saffold and Sullivan leaving is definitely noticed.    That has to be contributing to the offensive inconsistency.

2)  Why hasn't McVay changed up the offense to use quicker passes more often, to counteract the OL inconsistency?    Then, those quicker passes can open up the other plays again.

I'm still a believer in McVay, and he isn't a one year wonder.   He took a really bad Rams team through 2016, and took them to back-to-back playoff appearances including an NFC title.   He's still as young of a head coach as any in the NFL.

This is a good learning experience for McVay.    You don't become a great coach, without learning experiences.

For 2020, they definitely need to sign two veteran OL who can supply the leadership and blocking that Whitworth and Sullivan brought with them in 2017.   Whitworth is likely retiring after the season.

Gurley actually did alright yesterday (12 carries/73 yards).

You can't have Kupp with 0 catches, not after having 58 in the first 8 games.

He was never that good. Rams are going to hate the contract they gave him and will set them back.

Agree that he's not a superstar, and that was too much guaranteed money given to him.

But, he is solid enough.   Just not all of that guaranteed money solid.

The system definitely benefitted him in 2017-2018.

Injuries have definitely hurt their O-Line and what they got out of Whitworth last year was probably most of what he had left in the tank.  That said I think opposing defenses have made adjustments while the Rams haven't been able to counter at times.  Pitt doubled Kupp and made him a non factor a week after he put on a clinic against Cincy and the Rams passing game fell flat.  They're 5-4 and it will take a minimum of 9 wins to make the playoffs while they're going to need some help as far as Seattle/Minnesota who are both ahead of them.  Over their final 7 games they play Chicago, Baltimore, Arizona twice, Seattle, Dallas and San Francisco.  Division games are always harder and you can't count on beating Arizona both games.  It's going to be real interesting to see how they respond over the final 7 games because if they crap out this is a team that traded it's first rounders in each of the next two drafts for Ramsey.  That first rounder in 2020 could definitely help bolster the O line.

And the loss of that is why they will need to duplicate their off-season going into 2017, and sign two OL FAs similar to Whitworth and Sullivan.

It's not just who was picked behind Trubisky it's the fact that the Bears traded 4 picks to move up one spot and the niners who they traded with still got the guy they wanted at 3.  Trubisky is looking like the cautionary tale of when you trade up in the first round for a QB you better be damn sure he's worth it.  Supposedly the one person who wanted Watson more than Trubisky was John Fox who was the Bears coach at the time but he the GM and multiple other people in the organization got their way.

The Rams ran the ball well in the first half but their offense started to stall after that.  I realize Woods and Cooks were both out but they need to get the passing game going to have a chance to catch Minnesota or Seattle along with some help from the teams playing those two.

Someone grab that meme of the elephant with the fork in it, and move that fork to a ram.

Wade Phillips needs to retire (age 72), and Les Snead needs to go get two OL similar to when they brought in Whitworth and Sullivan after 2016.

Opposing coaches have figured out the deeper pass patterns.   It's time for McVay to make adjustments.
