This is exactly what Ervin does. He's been one of the most inconsistent pitchers in baseball since he first came up. 

 

It's amazing that he hasn't been able to put together a 3 year stretch where he had similar numbers. His HR/9 rate last year was clearly an anomaly and wouldn't continue this year. His K/BB ratio so far is the best since his dominant 2008 season. Very confusing and frustrating pitcher.
