Escobar is a downgrade from freeze.

 

 

I don't agree with that.  Escobar gives this team something they really need.  A lead off hitter.  That is huge for Trout.

And the ability to play second or back-up short if Simmons gets hurt. 

What I also like about Escobar is, say Kubitza/Cowart do suddenly emerge, we have the option of swapping Escobar to another position. We didn't have that with Freese. We'd either run out his contract with the prospect buried beneath him, or try to trade him.

If Escobar is leading off, our steal rate is going to plummet.  I could see Upton leading off and Escobar hitting second.  Move Calhoun to 5th behind Pujols.

What about 2013? No leadoff PAs. Oh because of that .720 ops, .330 obp

And 2012, a fine year for mr. Escobar. 100 leadoff PAs. .520 OPS, including a .256 OBP.

Maybe that why he didn't see the leadoff spot again for 3 years
