ESPN Kills Grantland

I stopped going to the ESPN website months ago after they changed the layout.  I don't even watch sports center these days because I can avoid all of the tmz style reporting there by reading articles or headlines elsewhere.  If it wasn't for the occasional NFL live episode, NFL pre-game show Sunday morning or live sporting events I'd be able to avoid ESPN completely.

Boo.

The Grantland entertainment pieces on shows was solid.

Dude their write ups on season 2 of TD helped me so much because I was so lost.  Plus all their background on Vinci and how it relates to Vernon was so awesome.

Of course their GoT write ups were awesome too.

I liked a good portion of their tv write ups, and previews. Greenwald put me on to a number of shows that I enjoy, and I think also helped me not waste a lot of time on shows I would have no interest in by pointing out they sucked.

I also really enjoyed the Charles Pierce articles, and some of the other long form pieces they had. Jonah Keri's baseball coverage was top notch as well.

It's a site I will definitely miss.

I think everyone will just go over to Bill Simmons new site/podcast.

I have a love hate with Greenwald. He does some psuedo-intellect style of writing that is pretentious and comes off as a self-righteous asshole. But he's a smart dude and I almost (almost) appreciate his writing style even though I hate it. It's like he tries to hard instead of writing in a colloquial fashion like everyone else on the site that is an easier read.

What helped me with him was the podcasts with that Chris dude. I liked their takes and thought process about shows.

I only dig and cycle a few websites, this was one. I hope they all do it again on Bills page/site.

This is how I came across the site. I actually loved watching the top shows and reading the write ups the next day. I found Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and GoT so much more immersing having the write ups to indulge in.
