They hired Dombrowsi and Dipoto too. They just like hoarding out of work GM's.

although i wouldn't hire him for much of anything. i think it makes way more sense that he'd be a first base coach, rather than a general manager. he at least has a resume that would warrant that position.

I can see it being a demotion but it's a different kind of business. He just may want to be in the game but on the field. I'm sure he could have gotten an offer to be an advisor or scout.

I look at it as a retirement job.  It's a lot less pressure than GM, yet you get to do what you like to do instead of sitting around doing nothing.

I would love to be a first base coach, wake up have some froot loops, go back to bed, go to the park and have small talk with the players, put on the uniform and touch trouts butt all day whenever he gets on first... I don't see any downfall to this job except having pujols ignore your every sign running at will when he knows damn well he can't run on his toes.
