Huge Asteroid will zoom by Earth on Halloween

Thats crazy, first thing i thought of from the title is how much time elapses before they notice them and they get close. One week, thats funny and scary at the same time.

What would happen if an asteroid this size hit the middle of the Pacific? Small tsunami? Nothing?

What about if it hit the middle of the desert? An earthquake like event?

If it hit land, mostly a nuclear winter type event and extinction of most plant and animal life on the planet.

If it hit water, just a massive tsunami that would destroy everything near the coast

Not an asteroid of this size. I can't imagine it is large enough to cause serious devastation so long as it missed hitting a population center.

Even with the conservative estimate, a 900 foot asteroid would strike with the force of hundreds of thousands of hiroshima-sized bombs.

An asteroid the size of a house can destroy a major city. This one is much bigger than that

Not an asteroid of this size. I can't imagine it is large enough to cause serious devastation so long as it missed hitting a population center.

There have been major landslides that caused "mega" tsunamis, and that's just mountain sides falling no faster than gravity can pull it down.  Imagine an asteroid coming in at tens of thousands MPH.  Continents would be reshaped by the tsunami it would generate.

I understand that. I am just not so certain that applies to an asteroid of this size.
