I definitely would. .818 OPS just two years ago, with 25hr and .272 avg. He had a down year to say the least in 2014, but played minimal this year. I think you don't lose much to try fixing any mechanical issues he may be having in a new organization and a fresh start. He is still young enough to turn it around, going into his 28th year season. He would come cheap and I see this as a low-risk, high reward. Worst case scenario is the kid is done. Keep a short leash and cut him lose. Best case scenario is an Arrieta situation (though less upside).

Remember when we used to go into the off season talking about signing guys like Beltre, Crawford, Soriano, Lee and Tanaka.....

Fun times...

We didn't sign any of those guys so what's your point?  We signed Steve Finley and traded for Vernon Wells. Not really fun times at all. Fun times was watching Glaus become a superstar and little talked about trades like Kimera Bartee for Figgins flourish.

Fun times meaning that there was a time that everyone had high expectations for signing big money free agents in the offseason. I think that Pujols, Wilson and Hamilton kinda put that to rest. The name Dominic Brown really spelled Domonic Brown doesn't carry that same offseason big name fire as years past.

How have those big money free agents worked so far? Again, not fun times to me. Royals right now are having fun times.

EG you nailed it. KC is the model.

Not saying that. Look at the Mets. For years they either signed or were rumored to sign almost every major free agent. Now they got away from that and look like a dominate team for the next 5 years.

The excitement of getting the big free agent dissipates pretty quick. Seattle seems already to be over Cano.

Well everyone here knows I don't care much for long term big money contracts for players that are past their prime. KC is doing it right with only a $112M payroll this season no really damaging long term commitments.

Yes I liked it better when Arte was cheap.

I am sick of you guys pointing out how franchises like KC are a model because they are finally good after 4 decades. You guys know damn well you guys wouldn't tolerate rebuilding and being so bad so long.

I agree with the importance of building the farm. However for me I would rather be the Angels who have had only two losing seasons in 14 years won a WS and an addition of six division titles and almost always playing meaningful baseball in September than the Royals who have ducked during those 12 out of those 14 years.
